The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has called on parents and caregivers to keenly monitor the audio-visual content that children under their care access and consume on broadcast media channels and digital media platforms, and to guide them appropriately.
While speaking during a sensitization forum at the Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA) -Kombani in Kwale County, Ms. Linda Jumbari, KFCB's Senior Compliance Officer, emphasized that protecting children from exposure to harmful content is a collective responsibility.
She further observed that parents and caregivers bear the greatest responsibility of ensuring that children under their care are not exposed to the myriad dangers that lurk on the internet, including age-inappropriate content.
During the forum held on Saturday 31st May 2025, KFCB officers, further sensitized the participants about the Parents' Digital Literacy Programme (PaDiL) that the Board is rolling out across the country in collaboration with other partners.
The PaDiL Programme focuses on empowering parents and caregivers with digital skills and knowledge to guide children on the safe and responsible use of digital platforms and content consumption.
The Programme further aims to raise awareness about the effects of media content and emerging technologies on children.
As the Government agency mandated by the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya to regulate film and broadcast content, as well as to give consumer advice on responsible audio-visual content consumption, KFCB remains committed to creating awareness on the role of parents and society as a whole in ensuring the safety of minors who use digital devices and platforms.
