Students Urged to Tap into Creative Economy Opportunities
The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has urged students to take advantage of opportunities in the film and wider creative economy sector for talent growth and job creation. The call was made during a Mentorship Programme for universities and TVET institutions held on 29 th January 2026 at Kaimosi Friends University in Vihiga County. Speaking at the event, KFCB’s Acting Licensing Manager, Mr. Marcos Masiga, highlighted the Board’s mandate as outlined in the Films and Stage Plays Act, Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya, which governs the creation, broadcasting, distribution, possession, and exhibition of audio-visual content. Mr. Masiga also sensitized students on responsible media consumption and production, ethical standards in film and digital content creation, as well as KFCB’s role in promoting national values through film regulation.

The programme, themed “Enhancing Socioeconomic Development in Kenya Through Promotion of Youth Talents,” was organized by the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) in collaboration with KFCB and other partners. Institutions of learning remain key stakeholders in KFCB’s Media Literacy and Public Sensitization initiatives under the #YouAreWhatYouConsume campaign. The campaign not only promotes responsible creation and consumption of audio-visual content but also raises awareness of government programmes, services, and emerging opportunities within the creative economy.
